Kauri Bay

A wedding / conference venue and rural folly tucked into the pastoral landscape.

The lodge hunkers into a saddle, spanning between the trig hill and a lower knoll - it backs into the contour keeping a low profile against the sky. Precast concrete walls hold up the hill and protect outdoor spaces from the southerly. Deep verandahs provide shelter for outdoor functions while a high clerestory lights the space through a timber truss structure. The entry deck splits the building into public and private areas and aligns with the sea view to Ponui Channel.

'Down the back of the farm' the bunkers building spans a native wetland - a little building to take shelter from and to appreciate the elements.
